The Yoruba people of the Western part of Nigeria, use proverbs a lot in daily communications.
Proverbs are used to advise, admonish, comfort, humor and to pass on various types of messages
Here is a proverb for you.
Watch the video and read the text.
Let’s break down the meaning together:
The proverb means:
What you are looking for in Sokoto is inside your Sokoto"💯
Simply put: that thing you are looking for outside of yourself is already inside you, waiting to be discovered and optimized.🙌🏽
📌For context:
Sókótó: A major city in Nigeria, West Africa. Used in this context to describe something far away/ out of reach
sòkòtò: Means Trouser. In this context, the pocket of your trousers
Do you get the play on words?
Here is my interpretation of this beautiful Yoruba proverb.
☘️Often the very thing we seek outside of ourselves lies within us waiting to be activated and optimized for the greater good of the collective
☘️If we spend our lives only searching for value, worth in external things that reside outside of us, we will miss out on the precious gifts we possess and it will be a loss to ourselves and our community.
ALL we need is inside our sòkòtò.

Let’s have a lively conversation!
Share with your friends who need to leave Sókótó and focus on what lies within their sòkòtò
