Watch the 1hr webinar replay on the Power of Oríkì

Oríkì is the oral praise poetry of the indigenous Yórùbá communities of Western Africa. It's usually accompanied by a talking drum (gangan).

"Orí" means head
"Kì" means to praise, greet, or to offer accolades by way of a song or a chant.

This informative workshop is created to nourish our souls and bring us back to one of the core legacies of our ancestral and cultural heritage.

During the workshop, we will explore how, why, and when the Yoruba people of West Africa use Oríkì within their cultural context.

The following topics are covered:
  • An introduction to Oríkì
  • The symbolism & significance of Oríkì (What, why, when, how is it used?)
  •  A deconstruction of the components of Oríkì (the content of the chants and the drums)
  • The spiritual aspect of Oríkì. In terms of using words to call in the future.
  • The different types of Oríkì and applications
